It came out one year after our article from The Day Publishing Company, a daily newspaper serving a 20-town region in Eastern Connecticut, with a total readership of over 37,000 on weekdays and Sundays. Newspaper on the Radio Mitchell Article by The Day Daily News Company: A judgment-free space for budding student broadcasters
Being featured in The Day Daily News Company is a significant milestone for me and my brand. With a daily and Sunday readership of nearly 37,000 across a 20-town region in eastern Connecticut, this exposure allows us to connect with a broad, engaged audience. It’s a great opportunity to showcase what sets us apart and build stronger ties with the local community, boosting both visibility and growth.
Announcing The 2024 Spirit of College Radio Awards
My team and I worked extensively on downloading thousands of songs, promoting the event, communicating with the headquarters through their social media platform, Discord, and so much more. We marketed the event by creating flyers, social media posts, mass email send-outs, and more. I'm glad I could direct the team and assist in building something great. We ranked 5th out of college thousands of college radio stations worldwide for the best college-run radio station.

"As station manager of Radio Mitchell in New London, Connecticut, Joshua Bar-Nadav has a wide range of responsibilities. He handles human resource issues and manages the station’s student volunteers. He’s created a station database. He’s launched a marketing program, enhanced the brand, and expanded the audience. And he’s a senior at Mitchell College.
“Jay is a great example of how the station is an opportunity for students to pursue their own interests,” says Luke Walden, a communication professor and faculty advisor to the station. “He’s a business major, and his interest is in growing the radio station as though it were a business, which it sort of is. Other students have been really interested in the communication part or the music or the tech. We support that the best we can.”
“We all love business, so we treat it like a startup,” Bar-Nadav says of himself and his colleagues.
Like many students involved in college radio, Murray and Bar-Nadav are learning skills and gaining experience—about business, marketing, communications, writing, engineering—that they likely won’t learn in the classroom. Some will use their experience as a launching pad. Comedic singer “Weird Al” Yankovic started using his now famous name while hosting a show at California Polytechnic State University’s KCPR in the 1970s (and he recorded his first hit, a “My Sharona” parody called “My Bologna,” in the station’s bathroom). But the real-world skills that students gain will prove useful regardless of whether they pursue a career in broadcasting (many will not)." - Ken Budd

"I've had the privilege of working alongside Joshua-Bar-Nadav at Radio Mitchell, where he serves as the President of Operations. Although Joshua technically manages my work as part of the station's team, where I handle the marketing, our group dynamic feels less hierarchical and more like a collaborative partnership- an approach that speaks volumes about his leadership style.

Joshua excels at bringing structure and efficiency to the station, ensuring that every aspect of our operations runs smoothly. He takes the time to listen, understand, and empower everyone on the team to perform at their best. His ability to balance high level strategic planning with the day-to-day problem-solving is truly remarkable.

What I admire most about Joshua is his passion for fostering a positive and productive enviornment. He encourages creativity, values input from all team members, and is always willing to roll up his sleeves to help with any project. Whether we're brainstorming promotional strategies or navigating the logistics of an event, Joshua's guidance and support is invaluable.

Working with Joshua has not only helped me grow as a marketer but also taught me the importance of leadership rooted in collaboration and respect. I'm confident that his skills, work ethic, and dedication will continue to make a lasting impact, both at Radio Mitchell and in any endeavor he pursues."

"It is my absolute pleasure to recommend Joshua Bar-Nadav. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Joshua during his time at Spark Makerspace, and I can confidently say that he brings a rare combination of initiative, adaptability, and leadership potential to every challenge. His impact on our team and our community has been meaningful, and I have no doubt that he will continue to thrive wherever he goes.

Joshua is a natural problem-solver. One instance that stands out was when we needed to coordinate public tours at the last minute due to an unexpected staff absence. Joshua stepped in without hesitation, quickly learned the tour script, and confidently welcomed guests to Spark. He turned what could have been a stressful situation into a smooth, positive experience.

He also demonstrates remarkable initiative. At Spark, Joshua consistently sought out opportunities to learn and support the team—whether that meant shadowing a Board meeting to better understand nonprofit operations or volunteering to take on tasks that needed attention. He doesn’t wait to be asked—he acts, and always with care and purpose.

Joshua's adaptability has also been remarkable. In a very short time, he familiarized himself with Spark’s operations, took ownership of welcoming guests, and became a warm, reliable presence in our space.

His leadership potential is especially evident when he's interacting with prospective members. While giving tours, Joshua demonstrates strong communication skills, an intuitive sense of customer service, and a clear ability to connect with a wide range of people. His confidence and natural charisma inspire trust.

In all his work at Spark Makerspace, Joshua has gone above and beyond. He will be a tremendous asset to any organization or program lucky enough to have him."

"I have the privilege of mentoring Jay Bar in his journey at Radio Mitchell, where I was a founding member. From the start, Jay has exhibited a keen strategic mindset, an incredible work ethic, and a strong ability to adapt to the fast-paced nature of the industry.

As he continues to grow in leadership, I see firsthand his ability to navigate complex operational challenges while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Jay consistently seeks guidance not just to advance his own career, but to elevate the entire organization. His dedication to learning and applying new insights makes him a standout professional, and it’s no surprise that he now serves as President of Operations.

It’s truly rewarding to see Jay continue to develop into the exceptional leader he is today. I have no doubt that his strategic vision and commitment to excellence will keep driving Radio Mitchell’s success. Any organization would be fortunate to have someone of his caliber at the helm."

"To whom it may concern:
My name is Adi Yom-Tov and I am a business analyst at Mainline Metals, Inc. Jar Bar Nadav worked directly with me as a sales intern between June 2021 and August 2021.
During his internship, Jay focused on learning about the industrial marketplace and steel products and application, as well as performing administrative roles in our office. In his role, he readily fulfilled sales calls, participated in meetings, and worked alongside our customer service,
sales, and operations teams with regards to their daily responsibilities.
Overall, Jay's attitude and energy were admirable. His desire to progress and achieve milestones demonstrated the value he can bring to an organization. He was timely in attendance and passionate about his work. I am certain that with proper guidance and mentorship he will be a
valuable asset and member of an organization.

"I write to recommend Joshua (Jay) Bar-Nadav for an internship or employment in operations, development, or project-management in a business or non-profit organization. I have known Jay for two years in my capacity as faculty mentor to Radio Mitchell, a student-run online radio station that I have overseen since 2016. Jay has been the president of the radio club and the station manager of Radio Mitchell since January of 2023 and has thoroughly impressed me in that time. I have found him to be an energetic, charismatic leader who has used what he has learned in his business major to transform the radio club from a state of inertia into a thriving, goal-oriented organization. He has nearly single-handedly increased the club membership from a meager post-pandemic ten students to a flourishing forty or more and has transformed the station itself into a buzzing hive of activity and student engagement. Through his initiative the station has had an influx of new equipment, and the club has a new emphasis on very business-like meetings, project schedules, and activities.
I see Jay as having the tools of a successful producer in my field of filmmaking, and, I therefore imagine, a business developer or project manager. He makes things happen. He is comfortable asking people for work and following up to make sure that work gets done as quickly as possible. He elicits the willing participation of people who want to volunteer their time to a collective project. He has ambition and energy to instigate growth and new projects. For instance, he has added the capacity for Radio Mitchell students to learn to use professional DJ software and equipment for live DJing and has initiated the purchase of merchandise to promote the station and generate revenue. He has been instrumental in a logo and brand redesign process and this semester has played an important role in developing a sports broadcasting capacity for the station in collaboration with Mitchell student athletes. Jay's entrepreneurial spirit and vision is fortunately matched by lots of hard work and follow-through, detail-oriented execution of tasks, and good communication and collaboration skills. His ambition occasionally needs to be tempered by a reality check about what's actually possible, but he is always willing to accept that guidance. I can easily see him starting a small business and growing it successfully or playing a key role as a department or division leader in a larger organization.
I have not had Jay as a student in my classes, but he seems to be excelling academically while simultaneously working many hours a week at Radio Mitchell. He has the energy and ability to make the most of the opportunities of a job or internship in an established or growing business and I hope he has the chance. You will find him to be a friendly, cheerful, high energy, and self-starting asset to the organization."

"I write in support of Joshua Bar-Nadav, who I have known in a professional capacity for over 3 years while he was my student at Mitchell College in New London, CT. He took several classes with me as part of his bachelor’s degree at Mitchell College and showed himself to be a diligent and thoughtful learner, exhibiting superior work ethic and strong leadership skills, engaging with other students in the class and earning excellent grades on all his assignments.

In Fall 2023, Joshua completed my BU215 Business Lab I class, where he demonstrated strong thinking skills and worked with a student team to frame out, test, and recommend a business improvement idea for an outside client. He simultaneously completed my BU183 Workplace Readiness Lab: Excel class, where he learned Microsoft Excel to professional standards. In the Spring of 2024, Joshua continued into BU415 Business Lab II, as part of a team implementing the recommendation he made in the fall semester. I was happy to see him in the Fall of 2024 when he completed my BU210 Principles of Project Management, a class in the theory and practice of project management, showing his leadership capabilities through a real world project case study. Finally, Joshua completed my BU490 Strategic Management Seminar, where he worked with a student team evaluating markets and proposing strategies for a company operating in the construction industry. Throughout the three years that I’ve known Joshua, I have found him to be engaged and motivated to learn and focused on demonstrating his learning in meaningful ways. He has a genuine strength on the people side of management, and, in my opinion, has the potential to grow into an excellent manager and leader of teams.

In addition to his strong academic work, I have witnessed Joshua being a leader on campus through his work leading Radio Mitchell, leading a large team of students, and developing the business side of Radio Mitchell operations. I strongly recommend Joshua for operations and business development work, where he can use his excellent leadership skills to drive improvement and growth.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for additional information should this be required."
